Summer Science Camp (SSC) is an initiative of Africa Young Scientists (AYS) that is set out to ‘catch them young’ by going to grassroots for Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) advocacy and enlighten the students, teachers and parents/guidance on the roles of science and what we all stand to benefit via commitment to scientific research and development. SSC comprises of Young Scientists (Mentors) that are interested in innovations and promotion of science through diversification and multidisciplinary collaboration, and secondary/high school students that will be selected across Africa.
The tasks to be addressed
- - There are relatively few media in place for scientists across Africa to collaborate and exchange idea (boot camp can address this!).
- - Many young scientists are prone to becoming an armchair scientist due to large information gap (Information digestion techniques in category iv shall address this).
- - Poor or lack of skills that can boost their research output especially in the area of data science which is fast growing and mostly recommended from lab abroad (To be addressed in category II).
- - Many health allied scientists and others lack knowledge on how to handle life threatening situation such as a choked person, faint etc. either at home, in the lab or outside. (We also make our scientists emergency attendee with category I).
Aim of SSC
- To shape young scientists towards meeting contemporary skills requirements
- To create a medium for collaboration and exchange of ideas among scientists across Africa
- To facilitate and encourage information digestion in the field of science or any related field
- To provide an avenue for building 21st-century scientists through proper skills acquisition and mentorship
- To enable and encourage diversification of career path through our defined information dissemination
